Silly
[edit]Should this page include a mention of the usage of the word silly in English? I know that the Wikipedia is not a dictionary, but is it relevant in this case? --Dante Alighieri 01:27 20 May 2003 (UTC)
- It should definitely include a derivation of the name. (An information sign in the town said that it came from the river Sille / Zulle. (As the Dutch wp article also says.)) --David Edgar (talk) 16:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
It comes up high on google searches. Sadly, the town itself appears rather boring. Is there any attempt by the locals to trade on its English name? Totnesmartin (talk) 12:49, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, there's not a great deal of note in the town, with the exception of the brewery. (This produces the "Saison Silly" beer - I don't know if it's intentionally named to target the English-speaking market (Saison being a type of beer), but if not, it seems a useful coincidence.) --David Edgar (talk) 16:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Do you think the article should mention the religion Sillyism?
[edit]A man named Max Fosh started a religion called Sillyism and claimed the town as its holy land. I personally think it would be funny if the article mentioned the religion. Liamc9509 (talk) 21:35, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, I think we should mention this in the article. TheHiddenCity (talk) 23:33, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
